Fundraising for nonprofits now made easier with Facebook's 'Donate Now' button
Facebook is a wonderful avenue to raise awareness for certain advocacies. Now, it launched its donate button to make giving to nonprofits' pages easier and more effective.
The popular social media platform announced on August 24 that it would open up the "Donate Now" button, which is a more effective call-to-action for a nonprofit website and other linked advertisement.
Facebook have rolled out a "Donate" button since 2013, partnering up with The Red Cross and the American Cancer Society. The buttons are conveniently integrated to nonprofits' pages while donations are done internally.
The American Cancer Society has been using this feature, which can be seen right next to the page's "like" button. This lets users make their donations directly by inputting their credit card information. Another association that has been using this button is the ALS Association, the nonprofit organisation that is responsible for the viral Ice Bucket Challenge.
In a post, Facebook for Business expressed its excitement saying it will be easier for nonprofits to connect with other people who also believe in their advocacies, as well as encouraging them to contribute.
After clicking the Donate Now button, a message will be shown stating that the non-profit organisation is "not endorsed or affiliated with Facebook." Upon clicking continue, users will be redirected out of the Facebook page and into the donation page of the particular non-profit organisation.
This process is the same with Facebook's mobile apps.
Facebook donations were very useful during the earthquake recovery in Nepal back in April. There was a total of $10 million raised within only three days for that cause. This may sound like wonderful news, but there are still sceptic users who are still not that confident in storing their credit card information on the social media site.
Nonprofits are also not yet sure on how much money they will get from this button. The Donate Now button is another big step for Facebook to convince marketers that its pages do drive conversions.
There may be some who are not yet sold to the idea, but the Donate Now button is definitely a useful tool for nonprofit organisations. This will help advocacies raise funds easier.
