Spotify Launches "Found Them First" Tool For Users’ Bragging Rights Over Breakout Artists
Spotify subscribers can finally brag to their friends they're among the very first people in the whole world who have listened to an artist who just made their biggest break in the music industry. Thanks to the digital music service provider's discovery tool called "Found Them First," subscribers and their followers can finally know the list of rising artists personally streamed.
The "Found Them First" functions exactly as it name suggests; it lets Spotify users know how many song artists' music, regardless of the music genre, were streamed before these artists became popular. For example, FKA Twigs, the British indie artist, is making it big right now. With the newest tool, Spotify will show if you were the 8th or 13th or 30th listener to FKA Twigs when she started out on Spotify.
"We love creating fresh ways for people to interact with music. This experience is an ode to the fans who truly love discovering new artists," said Jackie Jantos, Spotify's VP of Creative and Brand Strategy in a report published by The Independent.
This is a fairly new tool. To use it, Tech Times suggests logging into the Spotify account. Spotify will automatically scan the subscriber's streaming history to find out who this listener was listening to before everyone else started to do the same thing.
Other than that, according to Business Insider the new tool also shows the very first date you listened to this artist particular track. It will also sometimes show the subscriber's level of hipness by belonging to the top 15% early listeners and Spotify users can brag all about it on their preferred social media websites.
The data defines a "breakout artist" as a musician that has his or her particular song streamed over 20 million times and has a growth rate of 2,000 percent starting January 2013 to June 2015. In order to be considered "early listener", a subscriber has to stream music by that artist at least five times in one month.
Some subscribers would find that they were not an early listener to a breakout artist and that should not come as a surprise as this new tool is Spotify's method to introduce their new artists or "fresh artists" and help put them on the map.
