Nigeria's Dangote Refinery Begins Petrol Exports To Cameroon, Ghana, Angola, South Africa
Dangote Petroleum Refinery announced Sunday it has started exporting petrol, also known as Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), to countries including Cameroon, Ghana, Angola, and South Africa.
Dangote Industries' vice president of oil and gas, Devakumar Edwin, made the statement during a recent visit by a delegation from the Japanese Business Community in Nigeria, led by Japan's ambassador-designate to Nigeria, Suzuki Hideo, Punch reported.
Edwin also mentioned that in addition to petrol, diesel was being exported globally, and jet fuel was being sent in large quantities to European markets. He highlighted that the Dangote Group aimed to boost Africa's local refining capabilities, which will help drive industrial growth, create jobs, and improve economic prosperity.
He informed the Japanese delegation that the company was open to collaboration and always strived to meet the highest standards.
For example, Edwin mentioned the robots that manage the laboratory at their cement plant. He added that many Japanese-made equipment were already being used in both the refinery and the fertilizer plant.
Edwin explained that the Dangote Refinery was the vision of Nigerian investor Aliko Dangote, adding that it was designed and built by Nigerians to serve the global market.
He noted that it was a source of pride that a Nigerian company not only designed, but also constructed the world's largest single-train refinery. Dangote Industries Limited had handled the refinery's engineering, procurement, and construction.
Edwin also mentioned the Dangote Petrochemical Project, which he said will greatly increase investment in downstream industries, create jobs, boost tax revenues, reduce foreign exchange outflows, and contribute to Nigeria's Gross Domestic Product.
The Japanese delegation, which toured both the Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals and Dangote Fertilizers, praised the advanced technology used in the facilities. They noted that it highlighted Nigeria's importance as the gateway to Africa.
Hideo also described the Dangote Refinery and Petrochemicals Complex as an impressive achievement, showcasing Nigeria's technological progress on the global stage.
Takashi Oku, the managing director of the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), called the Dangote Refinery a remarkable project that showcased Nigeria's technological growth. JETRO was Japan's trade and investment organization.
He emphasized that, as the world's largest single-train refinery, it was a source of great pride for Nigeria.
Last month, Dangote Petroleum Refinery issued a statement revealing that it has reduced the price of petrol (Premium Motor Spirit, PMS) by 2%, bringing it down to N970 per liter from the previous price of N990 per liter.
