Uber JFK Airport flat rate rides slashed off
A lot of people have been huge fans of Uber and they even use them all the time. They are seemingly very essential especially when public transportation isn't good in the city. But the big news just took over that the company is actually cancelling off their flat rate rides in JFK airport, which is allegedly a let down for users.
Recently, news had been circulating that Uber is modifying fares between Manhattan and JFK Airport. And earlier the announcement, Uber has discontinued flat rate fares between JFK Airport and Manhattan altogether. The Uber management declared in a quite lengthy note, claiming, "Starting today, Tuesday, October 6, trips between Manhattan and JFK Airport will be calculated based on standard New York City time and distance rates*. Flat rate fares will no longer apply to these rides."
The management also added, "Whether you're headed out for the three-day weekend or expensing a trip to the airport, you can always estimate your fare in-app before requesting a pickup." And while checking on the fare estimate calculator on its official website, this represents increases in some instances. An example would be that when one is at the Andaz 5th Avenue, the fare calculator now indicates that the UberBLACK would cost $94-123.
In fact, just last December, Uber heightened up their UberBLACK flat rate fares. The offer now starts between Manhattan and JFK Airport, from $85 to $100. And Uber clients thought of this hike up of an approximately 20% increase overnight as a big pain in their budget for rides.
And in just a year, UberBLACK between JFK and Manhattan has taken its toll as an expensive ride than a yellow taxi. Then, with its cancelled flat rate rides, most likely it will double its price. Although Uber offers a lot, this change is allegedly a major turn down for users taking an UberBLACK between JFK and Manhattan. But if users are new to Uber and have yet to sign up, they would discover that Uber actually has a pretty lucrative referral program. A user can get a free ride for up to $20 by being referred.
Amidst the cancellation of the flat rate offers, many of the Uber clients are still using Uber. But they are reportedly waiting on how the elimination of flat rate rides between JFK and Manhattan will impact them sooner or later.
