Amazon to increase workforce for the holiday seasons

Amazon is one of the giant retail online stores that are hoping to meet the increase in customer traffic this coming holiday seasons.  From a workforce of 80,000 last year, it is now hiring more employees to reach the 100,000 figure.  It is surpassing the holiday hiring practices of its competitors Macy and Walmart.

Hiring for the holiday seasons by US retailers would be expected to be the same in 2015 as it was in 2014.  This is according to the Challenger Gray and Christmas, a global outplacement firm.  Since August, Amazon has already hired 25,000 regular full-time employees, as reported by the Independent.

"We've hired more than 25,000 full-time associates across the US in recent months and we're looking forward to adding 100,000 seasonal employees for the upcoming holiday season," said Mike Roth, Amazon's vice president of North America operations.

"We're excited to grow our team by finding great talent through our seasonal hiring efforts in addition to creating new full-time jobs that offer comprehensive benefits starting on day one."

This suggests a transition in the way that Americans shop.  Before, retailers had to hire more people to work cash registers and sales floors but now, Amazon holiday workers will be performing warehouse roles in accomplishing and sorting facilities, as reported by Fortune.

Amazon's market capital increased past Walmart, the world's largest company by revenue, over the summer.  The breach grew wider and Amazon's capital reached $262.5 billion compared to the $190 billion of Walmart.

Walmart CEO Doug McMillon keeps saying that customers would like an interactive shopping experience in stores.  The retail giant is currently developing its e-commerce offerings.  "Here's a key question," Foran previously told Fortune. "Will it be easier for an e-commerce company to build out a massive store network and create a customer service culture at scale? Or are we better able to add digital and supply chain capabilities and leverage our existing stores? We like our chances."

The retail giant Walmart is hiring 60,000-holiday employees.  Target, second largest online retailer in the U.S., is hoping to add 70,000 employees for its workforce.  Macy's department store is planning to create 85,000 jobs, almost the same as the year before.
