Facebook rolls out new notification feature for mobiile

Facebook announced a radical revamp on its iOS and Android mobile apps, especially on its notification feature. The new feature designed to provide users with useful notifications cards based on their location.

Facebook's new updates, according to The Verge, makes the largest social media site look a lot more like Google Now. The update is launched gradually across iOS and Android for users in the United States.

Facebook Product Manager Keith Peiris announced on Facebook's Newsroom Blog that the new updates is launched based on the feedback from Facebook users. He said that people wanted to add important information that they can easily see, all in one place.

With the new updates, the space that previously displayed the friends' likes, comments, birthdays, and event invitations, now shows the new lists named as 'cards'.

The new feature on Facebook notifications will show updates about users favorite sports teams, TV shows, the weather, and new stories. The news is split into multiple categories

If the users enable Location History in their settings, they will see news, events and happenings in their community.

Weather update including local current condition and weather alerts, nearby restaurants feature including reviews and links to their Facebook pages. The users can also see the movies playing in the nearby theater.

The updated notifications also show sports scores and TV reminders, based on pages that a user likes. It also shows the upcoming events that a user has joined.

Facebook also updated the space for Trending News topic, as reported on Techcrunch. The feature has its own card on notifications, rather than being hidden in Search as it was placed before.

The update will not change current notification settings. The users can adjust the Settings anytime. The users are also able to customize the info seen on the notification by tapping the arrow to the right of each card, or Add More Cards at the bottom of the tab.

The users are also able to add and delete the cards based on their interests. However, most users will stick with the default settings.

The new updated Facebook notifications tab has sheer gravity feature, that will get the users' attention easily and that is potentially to be checked multiple times a day.

Thus, the updated notifications have the potential to become the first place for the users to consume this kind of daily information. It is also able to personalize the information effectively. However, the updated notifications drive a very high signal feed to be much noisier.

Facebook plans to periodically add more cards to choose from and it will continue to listen to feedback about the information people find most useful.
