Samsung Galaxy View is the new 18-inch tablet
Samsung Electronics announces the Samsung Galaxy View, an 18.6-inches tablet. This new product is designed to sit between a tablet and TV.
But with its 18.6-inch large display, Samsung Galaxy View is less of a tablet and more of a portable touch TV.
The largest Android mobile device on the market delivers mobile entertainment experience by streaming video and media content.
CEO and Head of Samsung's IT & Mobile Business JK Shin wrote in Samsung's official blog, that the new Galaxy View provides an entirely new way of consuming mobile video and entertainment.
He said the company is committed to creating new possibilities and bringing the best mobile experience to the consumers.
Samsung Galaxy View is far less portable than any other tablet. It has 2.65 kg or 5.8 pounds in weight with 452mm long by 276mm wide by 11.9 deep dimension.
Its 18.4-inch screen is optimized for video with 16:9 aspect ratio and full HD resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels. The device also has a 2.1-megapixel front camera.
The device has nano SIM slot (LTE only) so unlike other smart TVs it doesn't need to be tethered to a power socket.
It runs on Android version 5.1 Lollipop as its core with 1.6GHz Octa core processor so the users can use any Android app on the device.
It has split screen view feature so the users can check updates on social media or play games while they watch TV.
The Galaxy View can play up to 8 hours of continuous video with its 5,700 milliamp-hour battery. The long lasting battery ensures that the users can enjoy hours of content consumption without worrying about recharging.
Samsung Galaxy View has two 4 watt speakers to offer really robust sound for a tablet and they're angled outwards to offer a 360 degree sound experience.
The View has built-in kickstand with a handle to make it easier to be carried on room-to-room transport. The kickstand is permanently attached and in its regular position, the kickstand props the Galaxy View up at the right angle to be set on table or desk and watched from a few feet away.
However, according to Digitaltrends, its not convenient to carry Samsung Galaxy View away from home. The stand never lays flat and it is really awkward to put it in the bag. Samsung even makes a special bag for this device.
According to CNet, Samsung is the latest to launch a bigger sized tablet. Earlier this year Apple introduced the 12.9 inch Apple iPad Pro, Lenovo launched 27-inch Lenovo Yoga Home 9000 and Asus introduced 18.4 inch Asus Transformer AIO.
