Wyoming teams up with Disney-Pixar for “The Good Dinosaur” official destination
The Wyoming Office of Tourism recently announced that the state department has become the official destination partner of the Disney-Pixar's much-awaited movie "The Good Dinosaur." Moreover, the state of Wyoming is looking to boost tourism through this animated film that is set for a release nationwide next month.
According to Wyoming News, although dinosaurs' species are featured in Disney-Pixar's upcoming film "The Good Dinosaur" may be long extinct, the areas they once resided can still be seen in the mountains and plains of Wyoming. And the Wyoming Office of Tourism is looking forward to capitalize off of that connection with the agreement made with Disney-Pixar that will allow the state to market its place with the use of the animated film's popularity.
"They approached us a few months ago, toward the end of summer, mostly due to the fact they had done several scouting trips and based the film on Wyoming locations," stated Chris Mickey, spokesman for the Wyoming Office of Tourism. He continued by saying, "They asked us if we wanted to be a destination partner, and we thought it was an absolutely huge opportunity."
The conformity between the state Office of Tourism and Disney-Pixar will make Wyoming invest $1.2 million of its advertising budget on a media promotion supporting both the film and the state, as reported by The Big Story. In addition, the state will reimburse Pixar $100,000 to help fund the film's world premiere. In return, Wyoming will be able to promote the state.
The campaign to promote the movie will be through displaying its bucking horse and rider logo on the red carpet at the premiere. Tourism Office spokesman Chris Mickey said that Wyoming will be able to display images from the movie in commercials marketing the state to potential visitors.
Diane Shober, the executive director of the Wyoming Office of Tourism, also mentioned the arrangement with Pixar, which provides the state the opportunity to increase interest in and visitation to Wyoming, as claimed by Laramie Live. "The film is visually stunning and the setting is very characteristic of the Wyoming scenery we know and love," Shober revealed in a statement. "'The Good Dinosaur' is a perfect fit for Wyoming with the mountain backdrops, sweeping landscapes and ties to paleontology and culture of the American West," she added.
While the Office of Tourism has worked with film studios before, Mickey said this is the first time the state has ever collaborated with a film via an advertising campaign. And for the meantime, the commercials will run from mid-November to mid-December, but probably won't be aired in Wyoming since it will only be seen on selected markets all over the country.
