Philips announced Sapphire S616 and Sapphire Life V787 smartphones with anti-blue displays

Philips Electronic Inc. announced the release of a pair of Android smartphones, Sapphire Life V787 and Sapphire S616. The smartphones feature SoftBlue that makes anti-blue screen by reducing 86% of the blue lights emitted.

Initially, Philips had applied SoftBlue technology on its 24-inch monitor display. The company now announces the SoftBlue technology in its new smartphones.

Philips new smartphones answer the concern of over-exposure of blue light to smartphone users.

The blue light has a high energy wave and prolonged exposure to it causes various side effects such as headache, eye strain, and eye fatigue. The blue light exposure at night time has been found to be one of the causes of sleep disruption.

According to Phone Radar, the Sapphire S616 has 5.5 inch IPS screen with 1080 x 1920 resolution. The phone is powered by the MediaTek MT6753 SoC with octa-core processor and the Mali-T720 GPU. The device includes 2GB of RAM inside and 16GB of internal storage.

There is also Micro SD card slot to expand the storage up to 128GB. The device supports dual SIM and supports for 4G LTE connectivity.

Philips' Sapphire S616 has a 13-megapixel  rear camera with LED flash and a f/2.0 aperture. It has a 5-megapixel front facing the camera with wide angle lens for selfie and video chats. The phone has 3,000 mAh removable battery. It runs with Android 5.1 Lollipop and is pre instal with Philips' UI running on top.

Philips plans to launch the Sapphire S616 this month. The phone will be priced at 1,399 Yuan in China, or about $222.

On the other hand, the Philips Sapphire Life V787 has a smaller 5-inch screen which also has a resolution of 1080 x 1920, according to Phone Arena . The screen works out to a higher 441ppi pixel density.

Sapphire Life V787 has a long life 5,000mAH battery with the Philips' Xenium technology to provide up to 47 hours of talk time.

Like Sapphire S616, the Sapphire Life V787 also powered by the MediaTek MT6753 SoC with an octa-core processor and the Mali-T720 GPU and has 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage.

The device also has Android 5.1 Lollipop as its operating system.

The Philips Sapphire Life V787 also has a 13-megapixel rear camera. But unlike the S616, the rear camera of the device featured with Phase Detection Auto Focus (PDAF). This feature allows camera to focus in just 0.2 seconds.

Philips Sapphire Life V787 will be made available at the end of November. The price of the device is still unknown.

Philips Sapphire S616 and Sapphire Life V787 are launched in China, according to Ubergizmo. And there is a possibility that the device will not reach U.S. market.
