Clinton Health Foundation to refile returns after being pressured to amend tax errors
The Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI) announced on Wednesday that it would refile its erroneous tax returns with the IRS.
The Bill, Hillary & Chelsea Clinton Foundation's flagship health foundation said it would refile the returns it filed in 2012 and 2013 after "recent media interest" pressured it to change its mind again on the matter, according to Reuters. CHAI didn't mention the criticism it received from the Republicans earlier this week. Last spring it said it would refile the form 990s as Reuters found out that it misreported the funding sources by as much as millions of dollars.
CHAI spokeswoman Maura Daley said, "As previously stated, the minor errors on the 2012 and 2013 CHAI 990s are immaterial and do not require refiling, yet in response to recent media interest in the forms, CHAI has decided to refile the returns in order to be fully transparent."
According to The Washington Free Beacon, CHAI also failed to include in their report some of their foreign government contributions to the State Department for vetting, which is required by an ethics agreement between the Obama administration and Hillary Clinton. The group decided to refile after the Republican National Committee urged the IRS Tuesday to audit the health foundation.
Politico writes that as Hillary Clinton seeks for the presidency, more media outlets are scrutinizing the finances of the Clinton Foundation and other organizations associated with it. The Republicans saw this issue as an advantaged and capitalized on it, as it questions the trustworthiness of the former secretary of state, as well as her husband, who is the former president of the US.
Meanwhile, Clinton has said that the charities affiliated with her family do worthy work and gives more information than what is required. However, she didn't address concerns raised by Reuters about not disclosing the names of every donor in the fundings it received from foreign governments.
