German Airlines Lufthansa Cancelled 930 Scheduled Flights on Wednesday As Strike Protest Continues

Due to the ongoing flight crew strike and after court had shortly halted the protest activity on Tuesday, German Airlines Lufthansa once again cancelled their scheduled flights on Wednesday. The strike protest lead by the union, UFO representing the 19000 employees of the German Airlines seemed to be the longest running strike protest activity the airlines had recorded.

Lufthansa Airlines have to cancel the Wednesday 930 scheduled flights as the flight crews continues their walk out protest, the CNBC reported. The said protest activity begun on Friday, the flight crews won't back down to push their demands on the German Airlines regarding the early retirement benefits and pensions.

A court in Duesseldorf halted the flight crews' strike protest activity on Tuesday after Lufthansa filed for temporary injunctions and ruled the strike was against the law as the union had not stated clearly of their aims and demands. Lufthansa also request to also stop the protest until Friday on Wednesday afternoon.

The German Airlines released a statement that it would halt the flights on the said day to and from their three airports. With greatly estimated 100,000 passengers affected, the airlines management also said they are still open for negotiation talks to the union however on a condition to stop their strike protest activity first, the Reuters reported. Lufthansa Chief Executive Officer Carsten Spohr said "As management we are forced to explore our legal options, but I would rather find a solution at the negotiating table."

Flight crews' strike at Frankfurt, Munich and Duesseldorf had resulted to discontinue the operation of the long-haul and local flights Wednesday through Friday. Despite of it, Lufthansa still manage to operate most of their flights, the Denver Post reported.

Lufthansa's plans to cut cost in order to compete with other budget airlines and Gulf carriers resulted to the airline flight employees to strike as their disagreement. The German Airlines is also on talks with other representing groups to settle things.
