Kelud

Kelud is one of the volcanoes in Java that is considered active.  It boasts a massive summit crater lake on its crater that makes a spectacular attraction among tourists as well as locals.  Kelud is infamous for its large fatal explosions. In 1919, its eruption killed almost 5,160 people while an earlier explosion caused 10,000 fatalities.

Ijen

Ijen has become popular for its Kawah Ijen, the world's largest acidic volcanic crater lake that contains rich sulphur deposits.  Visitors are attracted to its breathtaking turquoise sulphur lake that emits flame. It turns to smoky white during the day and becomes blue fire at night.  It is one of the volcanoes in Java that are active in the Ijen caldera. Similar to Kelud, volcanic eruption of Ijen is considered fatal for its harmful lahars, according to All Indonesia Travel.

Mount Semeru

Mount Semeru is among the tallest volcanoes in Java.  It is popularized for its name, "Mahameru" that means, "the great mountain." The volcano appears attractive with steady smoke on its crater. It is active, but is a favorite mountain for seasoned hikers.
