Google officially announced to sustain Android Wear cellular support
Ever since the first smartwatch was introduced two years ago, many other Android and Apple manufacturers have also launched and updated variety of other smartwatches to match individual's style and personality. Beginning with a high price range, 'wearables' are also sold at affordable price range, however with varying features. Android Wear is the most popular wearable OS today and Google is not halting to bring reforms in Android platform.
According to Android Community, Android Wear team officially announced the launch of another incredible feature in smartwatches, Cellular Support for Android Wear. It aims to be able to read notifications, make calls and send messages direct from your smartwatch. It has brought the cellular connectivity and that means that the devices running on OS do not have to pair with smartphones via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth to get online.
Google stated, "No more worrying about Bluetooth or Wi-Fi-your watch will automatically switch to a cellular connection when you're out of range. As long as your watch and phone are connected to a cellular network, you'll be able to use your watch to send and receive messages, track fitness, get answers from Google, and run your favorite apps. And yes, you'll even be able to make and take calls right from your watch, for when your hands are full, or your phone is elsewhere.", as reported by Android Central.
The Google's announcement came after LG launched an Android Wear smartwatch supporting LTE, Urbane 2nd Edition, as mentioned by Technology Personalized. As the watch is independent of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, the connection can be made through mobile data, making it function as a standalone device if your smartphone is not available in your pocket.
LG Urbane 2 Edition LTE will be available to international customers in the upcoming months and will be with Verizon and AT&T.
The cellular connection will not let users miss calls and notifications if they forget their cellphones at home when they are hitting gyms or going for a jog. After the announcement of Google, many other Android Wear manufacturers will come up with their own smartwatch supporting LTE. However, Apple Watch OS still haven't introduced cellular support.
