Eiffel Tower and Other Famous Tourist Attractions Closed Until Further Notice After Paris Attack
Eiffel Tower is closed for an indefinite period of time after the bloody Paris attack on Friday, Nov.13 that killed at least 129 people. The announcement was made by the operator on Saturday.
According to the company operating the iconic Paris landmark, Eiffel Tower will be closed until further notice. The popular site draws about 20,000 people everyday, but because of the terror attack on Friday, the incident caused a major effect on Paris' tourism. Tourists began canceling their European trip that includes a visit to the other tourist attractions such as Arc de Triomphe and Louvre.
"The Eiffel Tower is currently closed until further notice. At the request of Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo, the Eiffel Tower will remain in the dark tonight in mourning. Thank you for your understanding," the Eiffel Tower website reads.
Since the scary attack, the famous landmarks in Paris have been closed. According to CNN, police and military men flock the capital while a national state of emergency has been declared by the French President Francois Hollande. Three days of mourning were observed as fear begins to succumb the entire capital. Disneyland Paris has also closed their operations until Tuesday to finish France's national day of mourning.
With the state of emergency, the city of Paris has given alerts to travelers and foreign visiting the capital. The government will be imposing stricter border controls and there will be less movement throughout the metro. Paris airport remains operational as of this late and carriers are still flying to and from France. However, some airline companies have ceased their flights.
"Following the attacks perpetrated on 13 November in Paris, three days of national mourning have been decreed. Almost all tourist sites and activities are closed today: museums, department stores, parks and gardens...Public transport is operating as usual," Paris Tourism declares.
With the closing of Eiffel Tower, Paris' Tourism is greatly affected. However, the safety of the people and of the tourists remains the most important part. For people, who are still planning to visit the City of Love, they must evaluate the risks involved before deciding to fly there again.
