Hired Gun-Hacking Played Important Part In JP Morgan, Fidelity Breaches
Prosecutors from the United States charged two Israelis and one American refugee just last week for raking in a huge number of cash which is estimated to be hundreds of millions of dollars. It's one of the greatest and most complicated cases of cyber scam ever revealed during the present week.
The trio who are accused of arranging huge computer breaches at JPMorgan Chase & Co. and other money related firms, and a progression of other real crimes, did little if any hacking by themselves.
The government findings and a previous civil petition conducted by the U.S Securities and Exchange Commission revealed the news regarding JP Morgan Chase & Co.
"They clearly had to recruit co-conspirators and that type of hacker-for-hire," said Austin Berglas, former assistant and special agent in charge of the FBI's New York Cyber division. He further explained, "This is the first case where it is that clear of a connection," as reported by Reuters. Berglas is currently commanding the cyber investigations for private firms K2 Intelligence.
Berglas said an extra important cases of freelance hacking will become visible, particularly as more people become comfortable with online tools and equipment such as Tor that looks to disguise a client's identity and location.
Current weeks accusation blamed a hacker introduced as 'co-conspirator 1' of installing malicious software on the servers of numerous sufferers at the command of Gery Shalon. Gary Shalon is now under arrest in Israel and is considered to be the mastermind of this case.
Another finding in the preceding case charges a guy known as John Doe, considered to be in Russia right now, for a cyber attack on an online trading company known as E*Trade, reports Daily Times.
Officials have not announced whether the co-conspirator 1 and John Doe were the two names were given to the same person or even if FBI has got knowledge about their true identities.
Law enforcement agencies and computer security personnel reveal that outsource cyber crime services are mostly found on undercover Russian-language computer platforms, where veteran hackers advertise their skills and services.
Daniel Cohen, manager of an undercover team at EMC Corp's RCA Security reveals, "You can find anything you want for an operation. Hackers, servers, software, code writing. They are all available," as reported by NBC News.
The three criminals in the following case who were accused this week were, Shalon, Joshua Samuel Aaron and Ziv Orenstein who are under custody in Israel. The claims presented by United States Government said, all of these three criminals began increasing penny stocks before the hacks took the position.
