New Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport is designed specifically for racing
Porsche introduced a new Cayman model at the LA Motor Show and it is built for racing, not for the streets.
According to a report from Newzy, the new Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport is not street legal. It is powered by a 3.8-litre flat-six engine, which is located directly behind the driver's seat. It no longer has the traditional manual transmission and it now has a six-speed dual-clutch unit. This allows for a better acceleration and it prevents any possible mistake when downshifting.
Car and Driver wrote that the sports car has 385 horsepower with a 310 lb-ft torque. The car still features the rear axle and suspension that can be seen in the street GT4. However, it has the 911 GT3 struts in the front. It has 18-inch wheels that are forged alloy and it sports Michelin racing slicks. It has 15-inch venter steel rotor brakes with six-piston calipers in the front, and four-piston units in the rear. It still has the 18.5 gallon fuel tank that the original Cayman das. However, the car also comes with a 26.5 gallon tank. Overall, the Clubsport is 2866 pounds.
In a report by Autoblog, the new Clubsport sells for $165,000. This can be a bargain for racers since race-specific cars below $200,000 are not easy to find. Racers who want to buy the new sports car can get them directly from Porsche Motorsports North America for the 2016 racing season competition.
Porsche said the new car is for those "who have always longed to rip open the door to motor racing." The car is specifically for the track but it can also go on a wheel-to-wheel competition since the car adheres to the latest FIA safety standards. Porsche expects the Clubsport to be eligible for the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge, the Pirelli World Challenge, and other popular racing series.
