Google features 'Star Wars' themes, making users choose to join "Dark side," "Light Side"

Google hopped in to the Star Wars fever by feature themes from the upcoming Disney movies on all its sites, allowing people to choose to either be in the "Dark side" or the "Light Side."

In a report by Zap2It, people can type in "A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away" in the search bar and get a "Star Wars" themed visual that leads them to the stars. Users can also personalize their Google sites. They can choose to join the "Dark Side" or the "Light Side" and turn their Gmail profile into the corresponding side. Users have to log in to their Google accounts using Chrome and go to google.com/starwars to choose their side.

"It's a place for fans, by fans, and starting today you can choose the light or the dark side, and then watch your favorite Google apps like Gmail, Google Maps, YouTube, Chrome and many more transform to reflect your path," according to Google in a report by Venture Beat. "And that's just the beginning. We've got more coming between now and opening night-the Millennium Falcon in all its (virtual reality) glory included, so stay tuned. And we've hidden a few Easter eggs, too."

News reported that the new feature will give the user a shareable avatar. The new Star Wars makeover to the Google sites is applicable in app like Chrome, Maps, Gmail, Android Wear, and YouTube. A lightsaber will replace the loading bar in Gmail. A picture of The First Order will be at the background of the Gmail profile. YouTube's red progress bar will be replaced by a lightsaber.

People who regretted the side they've picked can go back to the Google Star Wars page and drag the avatar to the other side. By dragging the avatar to the middle, the sites can go back to the normal Star Wars-free Google. The program will end on February 1, 2016.
