Ford owners of vehicles who bought 2011 models and up can now download Siri to their SYNC interface.  It is the infotainment system that lets drivers make call and listen to music while focusing on the road.

CNET News has reported the announcement from Ford, which states that its Siri Eyes-Free software is now in more than 5 million vehicles with SYNC. The user needs an iPhone to connect to Ford's Siri Eyes-Free update. It allows drivers to call and text people, get directions, check calendar schedules, and listen to music using voice commands.

Basically, Eyes-Free provides all the features of Ford's SYNC to iPhone users using Siri's voice command capabilities. According to the report from Engadget, the new update can be downloaded in owner.ford.com. European owners have to go to their local dealership to install the software, but download will be available soon.

"Sync, Ford's entertainment and communications system, was designed to be flexible and updatable, just like other mobile technologies, so our customers are able to get the most out of their smartphones while behind the wheel," said Ford Electronics and Electrical Systems Engineering director Sherif Marakby in a report by Apple Insider. "Siri Eyes-Free is another great voice-activated feature that not only adds convenience but helps our customers keep their eyes on the road and hands on the wheel."

More and more tech companies in Silicon Valley have set their eyes on cars to integrate their technologies. Self-driving car technology is one of the major goals that most of the giant tech companies like Google, Tesla Motors, and Uber are trying to achieve in the near future.

Sync already has three versions since it was developed in 2007. The new Siri Eyes-Free version is nicknamed MyFord Touch in North America.Ford owners are also looking forward to Apple's CarPlay. A Ford spokesperson said the automaker will support CarPlay and Android Auto by Google soon.
