Ellen Pao has signaled her intent to appeal with her loss last March to Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers in a Silicon Valley gender-discrimination trial.
The attorneys of former venture capitalist and currently the CEO of online company Reddit Inc filed a notice of appeal on Monday in San Francisco Superior Court.
Her notice of appeal didn't have her grounds since this is only the first step for the whole appeal process. Pao has 40 days to state her ground of the appeal of the ruling.
Pao, now 45, worked at Kleiner Perkins for 7 years. From the yer 2005 to 2012. She accused the firm of only giving her small jobs. Aside from that, within the 7 years of her employment and denied her promotions due to her being a female.
Kleiner Perkins denied the allegations and said that Pao didn't advance in the career because of her own incompetencies and misrepresented key incidents at the firm.
Kleiner Perkins' spokeperson Christina Lee said in a statement, "a 12-member jury found decisively in favor of KPCB on all four claims. We remain committed to gender diversity in the workplace and believe that women in technology would be best served by focusing on this issue outside of continued litigation."
Last Wednesday, Pao spoke at Re/code's Code Conference in Rancho Palos Verdes, California. She said in the conference that she "didn't plan on being a symbol" and that the lawsuit against
In April, Kleiner Perkins offered let Pao off the hook for some $1 million in fees associated with its defense effort, but only if Pao did not appeal.
Obviously, since Pao has decided to file a notice of appeal, Perkins' offer is now off. In the incoming days, we expect Pao to state her legal grounds for her appeal of the ruling.
