Salesforce spends over $33 million in 2015 to acquire two tiny startup companies, Toopher and Tempo AI.
Tempo AI is a smart calendar app. The app will no longer accept new users as it will shut down on June 30 after Salesforce bought the company. In a statement, the company said, the acquisition will allow them to continue their mission at a larger scale. Consumers who paid for this app can get their money back through the Apple App Store. Tempo AI will be integrated with RelateIQ, which Salesforce acquired in 2014 for $390 million.
Toopher is a small security startup that has been operating for four years. Salesforce acquired it earlier this month. The startup company shut down its services right after the announcement of the acquisition.
The actual terms of the deal were not disclosed. However, there are reports claiming that Salesforce gave 37,408 shares to seven of Toopher's employees. That share is worth about $2.5 million.
Salesforce bought the two small startups for a total of $33.1 million. There are no exact details on how much of the total amount went to each of the companies. Salesforce isn't known for being an acquisitive tech company. It is more of an investor than a buyer.
But when it acquires a company, it is certain that it will pay big for it. Its acquisition of Toopher and Tempo AI is a mystery for most. This could make Salesforce fair, a bargain hunter, or simply generous. In a form filed with SEC last Monday, the company bought three companies this year.
Besides Tempo AI and Toopher, it also bought Paris company Kerensen Consulting. Salesforce bought the company for $24.2 million. This will give Salesforce a local foothold in Paris.
One thing is for certain, the acquisition is a decent exit for the recently acquired startups.
