Microsoft's latest Windows 10 increased its market share by 7.94 percent in October from 6.63 percent in September.

Ubergizmo has reported that one of the major reasons for the growth in the company's market share is the fact that people who use a genuine older version of Windows can upgrade their operating system to Windows 10 for free. Also, there are reviews all over the internet saying that this could be Microsoft's best operating system yet. At 5 percent in the previous months, it already overtook Windows 8's share of the market. If Windows 10's growth in market share continues to grow, it will later on eclipse the older and rather obsolete Windows XP, which has 11.68 percent of the market share.

According to a report from Venture Beat the new operating system was installed in more than 75 million PCs within four weeks after its release. After 10 weeks, it passed the 110 million mark. It is reported that Microsoft aims to have 1 billion devices using Windows 10 in the next two to three years. The devices aren't limited to PCs; they include consoles, smartphones, and others.

Windows Central also writes that Windows 10 is ranked fourth among all PC operating systems all over the world in terms of market share. Windows 7 is at the number one spot with almost 60 percent market share.  Windows 7 overshadowed XP in September 2012, but it went down to 55.77 in October. Following Windows 7 is Windows XP, and third is Windows 8.1.

On another note, Microsoft announced on October 29 that changes on Windows 10 upgrades are being handled. It will soon have Windows 10 an optional update for Windows 7 and 8.1 on Windows Update. Microsoft will also designate the new operating system as a recommended update in the Windows Update. This may automatically initiate the upgrade process on a user's device depending on the Windows Update settings.
