Australian creates beer out of avocado

A brewery in Yallingup South West Australia has created a beer made out of avocado, and it is such as big hit.

Avocado is abundant in the region. This is why Daniel Wind, an owner of the local Bushshack Brewery came up with a beer made out of the fruit, according to a report by ABC News. Wind experimented with the flavor for the Avocado Festival held last month. However, due to its massive success, he decided to continue brewing the avocado beer.

"They said if you're going to come along, how about you have a go at making avocado beer - and I went, well why not," said Wind in a report by Mashable. He said the brew is actually a lager and the bitterness comes from the avocado itself. The fruit also gives the beverage a "creamy finish."

The avocado's bitterness brings the same effects that hops give. Wind said despite the abundance of avocados, it still wouldn't replace hops in brewing beers. Bushshack Brewery specializes in flavored beers, according to a report by Fresh Plaza.

Wind said they are now producing a keg a week. He said, they will be making more of the beer, depending on the public demand. A local grower has delivered him 161 avocados with a boom in production. That number translates to 30 kilos worth of avocados.

One drawback is the avocado beer will look like a cider when it loses its headed immediately after it is being poured. The appearance could be an issue, especially for a brewer. However, customers don't care about the looks and simply wants to order more.

Wind expects it to be a niche product despite it being very popular. He, however, don't see it as a beer that would be drank on a daily basis. People want their beer light in flavor. Since the avocado beer is very strong in flavor, it is best for occasional drinking only.
