Startup home sensor company Notion raises $2 million for in-home monitoring unit
Notion, a startup company specializing in home sensors, has just managed to pull in $2 million in support of their new product.
The company received the funding from Draper Nexus Ventures, Gabriel Investments, Galvanize Ventures, Foundry Group Angels, and TechStars
Aside from the $2 million figure the company has just recently reeled in, it also received funding via Kickstarter. The company began their campaign on the crowdsourcing site in 2014 and managed to bring in excess of $280,000, according to Tech Crunch.
Notion is already in the process of shipping beta units, and it plans to ship out more sensors either by the end of July or right around the beginning of August, according to the company's CEO and Co-Founder Brett Jurgens.
As for the device itself, it comes complete with several kinds of sensors all built in to each of its connected devices. It was designed this way in order to make it fully capable of monitoring all kinds of devices that may be found inside the home.
Each individual Notion sensor comes equipped with seven sensors of its own. These sensors are then used to keep track of things such as temperature, water, light, movement, and proximity among other things. It can also be placed on to most kinds of surfaces for easier detection. This means that the Notion sensor can detect household events such as possible leaks, doors and cabinets opening, and even lights being left on, according to Tech.co.
Once the sensor detects something amiss, it will send alerts using text messages or emails to users to let them know something may be amiss. The sensors also possess a range of around 175 feet if walls are in the way, and around 300 feet if the path is clear, according to Tech Hive.
The team behind the Notion sensor is also working to create a bridge that will utilize cellular connections, so that users will not be required to have broadband service just to use it.
