MasterCard’s Hackfest to go global, aims for massive influx of coders from multiple cities

MasterCard announces to go global with its well-known hackathon event 'Masters of Code'. The company is expanding the event to multiple cities in the search for best coders.

MasterCard's hackfest events was huge success in Sao Paolo, Singapore, Hong Kong, Tel Aviv and Sydney, which propelled MasterCard to expand 'Masters of Code' hackathon to St. Louis and Mexico City in August. Both these cities boast of a flourishing trend when it comes to tech startups particularly in finance technology domain.

According to TechCrunch, MasterCard is planning to conduct a total of 14 hackathon events across 11 nations. The company also intends to collaborate with AngelHack, world's most diverse and largest global hacker community.

"This is simply one of the biggest collaborations that AngelHack is working upon," said Brian Collins, Chief Marketing Officer for AngelHack.

MasterCard's Chief Developer Evangelist Sebastien Taveau and Senior Vice President Open API Mario Shiliashki would be visiting each of the Hackfest, which would definitely add more excitement to the event.

This will be MasterCard's very first individual hackathon event, yet Mr. Taveau referred it to be a global contest because "we are dealing with the next generation of commerce apps and that new generation can be seen arriving from anywhere".

Winner will be bestowed with prize money of $100,000 followed by admission to MasterCard's Start Path accelerator, which assists early startups to develop pioneering commerce solutions and scale up successfully.

Further, Shiliashki also asserted that Hackfests like these help MasterCard to re-discover itself as a lot more than just a card company.

"As we have slipped into an era of connected devices and gadgets, we have a firm belief that MasterCard products, solutions and platforms will find broad application in the new connected era," said Mr. Shiliashki."
