HTC Vive set for October release, future plans involve social media engagement
HTC teamed up with the Valve, a company known for distributing much-admired online games to develop a virtual reality headset, HTC Vive. The new VR is set for release this October along with with future plans of social media engagement through Virtual Reality.
In a statement made by Jeff Gattis, HTC's Executive Director of Global Marketing, on Christian Today, they wanted to carry out their initial plan after they announced that the unit will be expected to blow the stores before the year ends. "We are targeting mid-October, but have not yet finalized the event details, venue, etc." He said, "Our hardware development, for the consumer versions of both the HMD and wireless controllers, remain on schedule for the end of 2015".
According to the HTC Virtual Reality website, you'll rarely experience rough intervals with the Vive because it has 1200 x 1080 pixel screens with 90 fps refresh rate.
With the Vive, you can normally glance over the virtual surroundings as if you were exactly in the area because they merged the functions of an accelerometer, a laser and a gyro sensor to observe the movement of your head on 1/10 degree.
You can also plug your own headphones into a jack on the side of the VR headset. But the Vive is recommended using SteamVR Kit, which includes a headset, two controllers and base stations physically to locate you allowing movements as standing and walking so you can tour the virtual environment. Added to that, the two controllers were designed for each hand to grip so you can move and navigate the virtual objects naturally.
Gattis told the Business Insider that HTC plans to involve the social media in the future wherein people can see each other and talk remotely. But for the meantime, car companies like Mercedes, wants to partner with HTC to incorporate the Vive for their customers to experience virtual reality, some of the developers for Oculus Rift are proposing applications for the HTC Vive too.
Thus, the Vive's potential is immeasurable; just imagine a virtual reality encounter on the VR's application games, movies and concerts. Undoubtedly, HTC's VR is the future.
