1 billion people on a single day: Facebook sets new record
Creating a new milestone, the largest social media platform Facebook recorded one billion people accessing its website in a single day for the first time.
On Monday (24 August), one in seven people across the world visited Facebook to communicate with their friends, colleagues and other family members. In October 2012, Facebook got its billionth user.
Established in 2004, Facebook has about 1.5 billion users who log in once in a month. Facebook in July said that more than half of the world's online users accessed Facebook page at least once in a month.
Mark Zuckerberg, founder of Facebook, said in a posting on facebook: "We just passed an important milestone. For the first time ever, one billion people used Facebook in a single day. On Monday, one in seven people on earth used Facebook to connect with their friends and family. This was the first time we reached this milestone. It's just the beginning of connecting the whole world."
Within a short span of time, Facebook has emerged as an unavoidable social media platform to share one's views, express opinion in addition to bringing people across the continents together on several issues.
Facebook enables ever person to raise his voice against any injustice done to self, any other person or be it any issue or topic.
Over the years, Facebook has successfully created a more open and connected world as it brings people together to build strong relationships with those you love. Not only personal relations, Facebook is also enhancing professional knowledge and rendering responsibilities as well.
"Facebook for promoting, understanding and for including everyone in the opportunities of our modern world," said Zuckerberg.
While thanking every user for being part of facebook community to reach this milestone, Zuckerberg said: "I'm looking forward to seeing what we accomplish together."
Facebook reported its earning numbers last month. The number of active users rose 13 percent to 1.49billion during the past one year.
More than the total number of Facebook members or the number of people accessing the social media platform in a single day, the number of daily active users (DAUs) is more important for investors and analysts.
According to the second quarter earnings report in 2015, the daily active users grew 17 percent to 968million during past one year.
Not only establishing connectivity or raising the voice, Facebook platform helped many families during natural calamities. For instance, Facebook helped a family that was struck in 2011 earthquake in Japan. Susan Chesney, a Facebook member, in her post, said her family wouldn't have known for our whereabouts without Facebook help.
