Tumblr changes reblogs so you can actually read them
Tumblr, a microblogging website designed by David Karp has redesigned its reblogging feature. The reblog button which is the most use feature on Tumblr that allows the user to repost content from another website to their own will become more mobile friendly according to Fortune.
According to The Verge, the new feature makes the post arrange in chronicle and streamlined list, but it will only be visible on user's dashboard. This makes reading comment or posts under each reblog, readable. The old design makes it harder for the user to read the commentary because it was presented in a list of blockquote indents causing a post to be longer.
The new feature has been implemented on the blog starting on September 2nd. The change was announced on the company's official blog. In the statement, the company said the new reblog button will "Showcases all comments as equals, not buried under an impossible stack of blockquote indents."
Besides making it more readable, the new design also helps the content creator on the site to get the recognition they deserve as misattribution will be harder. This is because, the old design makes the original creator's username left at the bottom of the post and cannot be seen by the latest user.
Tumblr has been actively trying to make sure their creative user get the credit that they deserve. Previously, Tumblr introduced a GIF search engine feature on the site for the same purpose. The company had also tweaked their reblog feature previously to allow caption reblogged to either be intact or completely remove based on user's preferences.
Tumblr also encourages the original creator to always use the content source field whenever they post something. This will make sure that no matter how many times a post is reblogged, the original creator will get the credit.
It seems that Tumblr users have a mixed opinion regarding the new changes. Some of them give full support as this will improve the blogging experience more while others that dislike it as it will make it harder for them who use the site for role-playing as explained by TechCrunch.
Tumblr, a social networking website allows users to post all types of content on their website from multimedia to writing material was acquired by Yahoo in 2013 for $1.1 billion. The site headquarter which is in New York host over 252 million blogs as of September this year. The company is slowly improving their website as they plan to increase their user and generate more revenue from it.
