Instagram, the photo-sharing app that was bought by Facebook in 2012, had reached 400 million users. Around 80 million photos were shared every day with a total of 3.5 billion likes.

Instagram showed a steady growth in the past five years and still continues to get bigger, Wired reported about 400 million people have been actively posting photos to Instagram every month, the network said in a statement last Tuesday.

At the same time, 80 million photos were shared every day along with a total of 3.5 billion likes. It was specified in Mashable that its international users have a huge contribution to its growth. The company said almost 75% of its users are outside the U.S. Some of its popular subscribers include U.K. athlete David Beckham, Toni Kroos from Germany, South Korean singer T.O.P. and Raffi and Nagita from Indonesia.

NASA also shared milestones to Instagram when it posted its first image of Pluto on its IG account before releasing it officially.

Re / Code analyzed Instagram keeps on growing 100 million subscribers every nine months. In earlier years, it took them nine months to grow users from 200 to 300 million. Yet again, it reached 400 million subscribers from 300 million in the past nine months.

The report said IG outperforms Twitter and Pinterest way better. The micro blogging network had reached 316 million monthly users and still struggles in finding its CEO. In line with that, Pinterest had reached only 100 million users so far.

In the same context, Research firm MoffettNathanson is optimistic about IG. They forecast the company will acquire $600M profit next year. They even estimate it could worth $5B someday.

Instagram's aim is to make the world smaller by means of visual communication. "When Instagram launched nearly five years ago, 400 million seemed like a distant dream," the company stated. Now, people share their passions and connect to the world through images.

In view of this, they promised to continue improving its service. In fact,  the landscape and portrait mode was recently launched together with the search and explore function.

Apparently, 400 million people wanted to share their thoughts and stay connected through images. It seems Instagram is a much simpler way to express the things you can't say in words.
