Virgin America ties up with Netflix over on-board entertainment streaming
Virgin America, the U.S. based low-fare airline, teamed up with the top Internet TV network, Netflix, to provide a free in-flight streaming of movies and TV shows.
Virgin America Inc. and Netflix announced their partnership to offer an in-flight video streaming. Passengers could have an access to the entire Netflix arrays of movies and online series starting today. This is made possible through Virgin America's recent tie-up with ViaSat Wi-Fi, PR News Wire reported.
Hit series like Orange Is The New Black and House of Cards could now be enjoyed by users on-board via tablets, phones or laptops for free until March 2, 2016.
In addition to that, House of Cards' season 1 to 3 could also be watched on the airline's newly upgraded Red touch-screen seatback.
Both are pleased to convey entertainment and technology to the sky. Virgin America VP of Brand Marketing and Communications Abby Lunardini said in the press release, "These latest generation investments in our WiFi and entertainment platforms allow us to provide the largest breadth of streamed content ever available at 35,000 feet - along with entire seasons of some Netflix favorites via the Red platform."
Along with the announcement, Virgin America also unveils 10 new A320 aircrafts already available this year.
Venture Beat clears out the service from ViaSat Wi-Fi promises 8 to 10 times faster internet connections. Just open the browser and log in to the airline's Wi-Fi through ViaSat network. Travelers could sign in to their Netflix account or sign up for free if they don't have an existing one.
However, Netflix still won't offer downloads. It said downloads would only add more complexity which is not necessarily needed. For them, streaming technology is about having an on-demand quality service through Wi-Fi connections.
Virgin America is the first airline to operate with the highest quality internet connection service in the sky. It coincides with Netflix's aim to prove that ubiquitous connectivity is the future of entertainment streaming.
