Amazon’s Hotel Booking Services: Amazon Gets Out Of The Hotel Booking Business After Only 6 Months

It seemed like a great idea that Amazon's huge back-end and customer base could turn into deals for hotel services and travel. But Amazon couldn't deliver the hotel services after all as they decided to stop allowing reservations after 6 months of operation.

Amazon Destinations, a dedicated hotel booking site for the e-commerce giant closed its doors this week after 6 months of operation, as reported by Cool CashBack Deal. The service, which sought to pair locals up with a getaway at select hotels, stopped accepting reservations on Tuesday.

According to a notice posted on Amazon Destinations official webpage, previously booked reservations are still valid and will be honored. It appeared as a rare thing to find Amazon backing out of a business angle since they are normally able to just push through their products. But that is not the case with hotels, though, so they have closed that door.

The previous service allowed hoteliers at about 150 properties in the Northeast, Southern California and the Pacific Northwest the choice to offer lodgings through Amazon at either their published rates or for discounts and packaged deals, with only select days available at most. "These are all hand picked properties that have been visited by someone at Amazon to make sure they meet our quality," a spokesperson for the company said back in April.

And after all, everything  is not lost as the company did say they have "learned a lot." And just recently the company said in a statement to Bloomberg, "We have learned a lot and have decided to discontinue Amazon Destinations."Many of the hotels that listed rooms on Amazon Destinations when it launched were independent hotels, but there were also some large brands in the mix.

Meanwhile, a lot of the hotel booking service users appeared to be disappointed by the immediate notice of the cancelation of offers. However, the growing company promises their clients world- wide of a better performance in other services.
