Waze finally gets an update after Google's acquisition
The largest community-based traffic app, Waze, had updated its features after three years. As Google had bought the app, the company said it will soon roll out on Android devices too.
Now, the traffic monitoring and navigation app has a modern look. Users could participate by means of reporting road issues, accidents and sharing some tips.
As Venture Beat describes it, the 4.0 version is much cleaner. This time, the app only requires fewer taps to send locations, start a drive and get directions. Sending notifications to the community has been faster, especially on road accidents and road closures. It could even efficiently send your estimated time of arrival to your friends. The 4.0 will automatically send you alerts based on your latest approach as well.
With the new ETA panel, users could view reports, check alternate routes, and place in 'stop points' on the way, iClarified shared the details.
The newest version shows a lot of improvement in the map interface which is obviously patterned with the design of other Google apps. Along with that, it had reduced its battery consumption too.
Other updates include a smart reminder whenever you have to leave earlier for events to adjust your driving time based on the present traffic condition.
But you need to have iOS 7.0 or later to download the free app on the Apple App Store. Waze is compatible with iPad, iPhone and iPod touch.
However, a review from AppAdvice said the update doesn't support 3D Touch. It is also not enhanced for Apple Watch driving experience. Apple Watch users regret that they were not allowed to use it from their wrist. Drivers would have to pick up their iPhone to report accidents via the Waze app.
Apparently, Waze is getting closer to the Google core in the latest update. The navigation app has reported real-time road accidents being integrated with Google Maps. The release is only applicable to iOS users as of now. Though the company said it will also become available in Android soon.
