Abbey Road Studios is entering the tech industry

The great Abbey Road Studios is entering into the tech industry as it wanted not only to act as a recording studio but also as a music technology incubator. The plan was revealed by the Universal Music Group in a ceremony at the Studio 2 on Wednesday night. It will assure their continued reliability amidst technology era.

According to the Tech Times, the incubator will be known as Abbey Road Red and it has already been hosting few music-related startups under its wing. Currently, there are already few startups under the studio such as the Titan's Reality Pulse and software from Jukedeck.

The Abbey Road Red incubator works by offering its expertise, facilities, and mentorship for the startups as reported by Mashable. The studio's objective to become the only music tech-specific incubator in Europe might be something to look forward to as it will take three new startups every six months.

However, the studio will not be giving the access to its facilities without any return. Startup under its guidance will need to give the Abbey Road Studios a stake of around 1 to 2 percent in their company, the Financial Times report.

Beside of providing access to its facilities, Abbey Road Red will also make an investment to the company that have great potential to grow further. The managing director of Abbey Road, Isabel Garvey said that "The reason we're in this game is to spot winners."

Among products that were introduced during the launching ceremony is the Titan Reality's Pulse which is a sensor pad and audio controller that can replicate any types of instruments by identifying the objects above it. Another great product is the one produced by musician Imogen Heap, Mi.Mu. The product makes use of the concept of air drumming where users wearing the gloves will be able to turn their hand into any instruments including act as a midi controller.

The Universal Music group has been actively investing in different companies in the music industry including the music streaming service Spotify and a London keyboard maker Roli. The group acquired Abbey Road in 2012 and will use the Abbey Road Red as a way to invest more in the music product business.

Besides acting as a music studio and music incubator, Abbey Road has also launched its own coursework including taking students for a diploma in audio engineering. Besides that, artists can also send their music online to be mastered through its online mastering service.
