Lufthansa brings back Denver-Munich nonstops, resumes flights from Munich to Iran

Lufthansa will begin flying between Denver and Munich this spring, restoring a route it dropped in 2008 during the global financial crisis. On the other hand, in the upcoming summer flight schedule, the airline is set to once again fly direct from Munich to Tehran.

The airline will operate five flights a week on the route in 236-seat Airbus A330-300 jets that include first, business, premium economy and standard economy seats. Although the airline already flies from Denver to Frankfurt, which is the carrier's largest hub, Munich is Lufthansa's second-biggest hub.

"The return of direct flights to Munich displays just how important the Denver market is to our airline," Juergen Siebenrock, Lufthansa's Vice President said in a statement via Breaking News Travels. He added, "With all classes now offering the newest onboard product, our passengers traveling to Munich will experience the highest level of quality, as well as the premium customer service, that Lufthansa is known for."

Lufthansa is a member of the Star Alliance frequent-flier group, which also includes United Airlines. United and Lufthansa also are close partners via a joint-venture pact that allows them to coordinate sales and marketing efforts on trans-Atlantic routes.

The Denver Post notes that Denver was the last of United's mainland U.S. hubs from which neither United nor Lufthansa flew to Munich. United's other mainland U.S. hubs are Newark Liberty, Washington Dulles, Chicago O'Hare, Houston Bush Intercontinental, San Francisco and Los Angeles.

Moreover, the connection with flight number LH 602 is set to begin on April 14, 2016. The flight will depart three times per week at 22:10 from Munich, reaching the Iranian capital at 5:20 in the morning. The Airbus A330-300 also offers Lufthansa guests a choice from one of four classes with the latest cabin equipment, including 21 Premium Economy seats, as mentioned in Lufthansa Group.

On top of this, Austrian Airlines also flies up to twice a day from Vienna with an Airbus A320. "Following the reduction of sanctions and the re-activation of economic ties related to these, we expect a strong increase in demand for business travel. For cultural travellers Iran will become increasingly interesting as well," claimed Thomas Klühr, Member of the Lufthansa German Airlines Board, Finances & Hub Munich.

With the new connection, the Lufthansa Group complements its daily offering with a Boeing B747-400 from Frankfurt. And beginning on May 11, 2016, Lufthansa will operate five flights a week on the route in 236-seat Airbus A330-300 jets.
