Borneo Travel Adventures: Wildlife Species, Swampy Forest and Cave Exploring
Traveling and exploring the depths of the known third-largest island in the world, Borneo would be a wonderful and unforgettable experience for many travelers. With the reputation as the best place for wildlife viewing activities in all of Asia, Borneo offers several places for travel adventures.
According to the Borneo Adventure, the perfect spot to explore the Sarawak's forest and ideal for wildlife viewing is the Bako National Park. It covers an area of 27 sq km and is directly accessible from Kuching. Though, it is in small size, the park is a home of vegetation in numerous kinds. The park's different ecosystems, mixed dipterocarp forest, mangrove forest, beach vegetation, cliff vegetation, Kerangas or heath forest, padang or grasslands and peat swamp forest. The swamp can be cross through trekking trails and plankwalks.
Borneo is also known as the home of rare wildlife species such as the proboscis monkey which is endemic to Borneo, silver-leaf monkeys, long-tailed macaques, monitor lizards, bearded pigs and a variety of birdlife. In Labuk Bay, it is considered as the sanctuary of the endemic proboscis monkey. It is located within an oil palm estate about 38 kilometres from Sandakan. Proboscis monkey's main habitat at the sanctuary is in the small patches of mangrove forest surrounded by plantation land. The sanctuary also allows visitors to have an up close encounter with the endemic monkeys.
For wildlife viewing adventure, the Danum Valleys Conservation areas is the best place to spot the other plants and wildlife species from birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians and plants. Most endangered species such as Sumatran rhino, banteng (a species of wild cattle), Borneo Pygmy elephant, clouded leopard, orang-utan and proboscis monkey can also be found at the area.
Borneo also has the ideal place for cave explorers. The Gunung Mulu National Park is known for its limestone karst formations and also some of the most spectacular caves on earth. It is also houses the world's largest underground chamber the Sarawak Chamber, the world's largest cave passage, Deer Cave and the longest cave in Southeast Asia, Clearwater Cave. Traveling to Borneo will definitely satisfy the thrill and adventure seekers experience.
