American Airlines to Operate Daily Flights from Los Angeles International Airport and Haneda Airport
United States major carrier, American Airlines will open new daily flight service from Los Angeles International Airport and Tokyo's Haneda Airport. The Forth Worth-based airline will operate the flight route in February 2016.
The Star Telegram reported, the American Airlines made an announcement on Wednesday that they will begin to operate new daily flights from Los Angeles International Airport to Haneda Airport in Tokyo starting February 11, 2016. The airline had granted route permission in October, allowing them to fly to the Tokyo-based airport. However, the beginning of flight service had delayed for lack of landing capacity in Tokyo. American Airlines now confirmed that it is available now and flights LAX-Haneda service can start.
According to Dallas News, the American and Delta Air lines had been competing for the slot. Though, the Atlanta-based airline gave up the flight route Seattle to Haneda on September, Delta asked the federal regulators to remove the Haneda route from the American as they failed to file schedules or sell tickets within the required time.
The Delta representative, Trebor Banstetter said, "It is still our position that American is required to start flying LA-Haneda by Dec. 1. The fact that they have announced a date in February is a violation of their authority and their commitments." The Atlanta-based airline still wants the route and push Department of Transportation to reopen the general bidding.
Despite the competition, American's chief marketing officer, Andrew Nocella said in a statement, "It's important for our customers to have direct access to Tokyo Haneda, and we'll be proud to serve this key airport from Los Angeles." The Forth Worth-based Airline will also start selling plane tickets for the newly acquired daily flights on Sunday, according to Travel Weeks. More Airlines prefer a slot in Haneda as it is much closer to the central city, Tokyo compared to the Narita Airport.
American Airlines will also use a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner for the LAX-Haneda flight service. Flights will depart at 6 pm and will arrive at the Haneda Airport 11 pm the next day. And from Tokyo, flights depart at 1:30 am and the arrival time at the Los Angeles International airport will be at 6:20 p.m.
