Dronestagram lets people share photos and videos of their drone shots
The term "Bird's eye view" is taken to brand new heights with the new photo and video-sharing site for drones called Dronestagram.
CNN reported that the new site, which now has more than 30,000 active users, shows people a bird's-eye-view of some of the most wonderful and remote landscapes in the world. The site has extremely rare shots from ancient mausoleums in China to people diving from a cliff in Mexico. The site is created by French entrepreneur, Eric Dupin.
Currently, there is a contest in the United Arab Emirates called Drones for Good Award, where people can submit their best drone shots for a chance to win $1 million.
Dupin said, "Maybe for the same reasons for which man has always dreamed of flying. Just look at people in an airplane, stuck on the window seat looking down. With satellite images, and apps like Google Earth, we are now used to seeing Earth from above. But drone photos bring a new way of seeing the world, at low altitude, near landscapes and buildings, like a bird would do."
According to Daily Mail, Dronestagram is considered the Instagram for drones. The site recently held a competition with collaborations from national Geographic, Go Pro, Kodak, Adobe, and other influential sponsors. There were 5,000 entries submitted for the competition.
Mirror reported that the first prize winner for the "Places" category of Dronestagram's competition is Ricardo Matiello who took shots of the amazing clouds over Maringa, Brazil. Meanwhile, the picture called "Snorkeling with Sharks" got the first prize award for the "Nature" category.
Dupin said Dronestagram is most popular in the US, France, UK, Brazil, and Italy. He said a great drone photo is something people can immediately identify as a photo taken by a drone. It must be at a low attitude, and it should be a short that is impossible to take without a drone.
