Facebook launches New Donation Options for Fundraising and Charities

The 2014 ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, which garnered $115 million as 440 million Facebook users watched 17 million videos of people dumping buckets of ice on their heads 10 billion times, inspired Facebook to come up with fundraisers and enhanced donate buttons.

According to Fortune, Facebook launched Wednesday its new social good team and new fundraising tools for non-profit organizations. Charities can now create a standalone fundraiser page to promote their campaigns. One of the major features the social media rolled out is the new donate buttons. Fundraising organizations can add these buttons to their pages or to their posts.

In a report by Mashable, Facebook's new "Fundraisers" are pages that let nonprofit organizations raise money for their specific causes from refugee crisis to building clean water well. It will look similar to event pages, where organizations can describe their campaign and collect donations directly from people. It will also give them an idea of the progress their fundraising campaign is making.

This makes it easier for people to donate to the cause instead of navigating through another site that the non-profit organization has set up separately. Users can also share the cause where he or she gave money to. The post will also have the donate button. This way, users can encourage their friends to give to the cause.

Gigaom reported that Facebook is working with organizations like the World Wildlife Fund and the national Multiple Sclerosis Society to run a test on the new features. The social media giant is also planning to expand the new features to 501c3 nonprofits soon. The company is grateful to 37 organizations for helping them come up with new ways to help people and make a difference.

Facebook also rolled out other social good products, like the safety checks, which was released after the recent Paris terror attack.
