Microsoft launches AppComparison to encourage people to use its Windows Phone
Microsoft just added a new application called AppComparison for its Android devices in a desperate move to persuade people to use the company's Windows Phone.
According to Venture Beat, Microsoft's new app gives a list of which Android apps on a user's device is available on the tech company's mobile platform. Those who use Android 4.1 and higher can download the new app in Google Play. It has a description that asks "Are you considering changing your Android device to Windows Phone?"
"AppComparison identifies your favourite Android apps and matches them with apps available from the Microsoft Store. The application also introduces you to some of the most popular Windows Phone applications," it reads.
Android Headlines reported that AppComparison matches the apps on the Android device to those on the Windows 10 platform. With this new app, Microsoft aims to show that the app store for phones that run on Windows 10 is growing. Microsoft is also working to increase its app base. They need to attract developers to make apps for their platform. However, not many developers are into creating apps on the Windows platform since there are no multitudes of users using the platform. This becomes an endless cycle as users want more apps before shifting to the platform, while developers want more users before creating apps for the platform.
However, Android Police reported that Microsoft has tried this move before with their "Switch to Windows Phone" app released in 2013. It scans the apps on a user's device and suggests alternatives on its Windows Phone. It didn't show matches, it only connected people to a Windows Phone where they could download the apps. That app was repurposed, and now Microsoft has launched the new AppCompare.
There are reports, however, that the app will give the user recommendations on alternative Windows phone apps that are not exactly perfect. Sometimes, it even gives quite odd suggestions. A lot of users are actually disappointed with the app.
