More Charging Station for Electric Car Is Needed in Cities Around the World

Some cities are reported to have installed more electric car's charging stations in order to promote electric car usage. However, non-electric cars are reported to take up parking space for electric car charging.

Electric cars have been every automaker's dream for so long. Energy crisis and higher oil price is the main trigger for searching the substitue of gasoline into electric battery-powered car. However, up to now, automakers have not been able to overcome the shortcoming of its mileage, that results a constant charging for electric car's battery.

China is one of the most eager to develop and encourage the use of electric cars. China has invested hundreds of million dollars to replace gasoline power car with electric cars. The plan is set up to reduce its reliance on oil imports and reduce urban pollution as well. China's government has made a clear target to develop energy security plan with the electric vehicle cars. Currently, there are more than 250,000 electric cars sold in China, and government is planning to switch millions of cars into electric cars.

In order to increase electric car usage, China provides on-the-road charging station. Shanghai Daily reported that Shanghai will install 10,000 electric charging stations, or charging pole by June next year. Wan Bang auto group has currently installed 1,000 electric charging stations in Shanghai. Despite some obstacles, the company will keep the project going. According to Shao Danwei, chairman of Wan Bang New Energy, "The biggest problem for China's charging infrastructure development is lack of land support, and profitability,"

The project covers 100 cities and within three years it will install 250,000 charging poles with government support as China's Vice Prime Minister, Ma Kai has given government support for the project. China is planning to have 4.8 million charging poles by 2020.

In the U.S., especially in California, as more electric cars are on the road, the demand for public charging stations is increasing. According to Monterrey Herald, The California Energy Commission reports that, within four years, more than 146,000 plug-in electric vehicles were sold in California. Especially in Monterey, Santa Cruz, San Benito and Santa Clara counties, where the number of electric and hybrid vehicles increased by 41 percent in the same period. This creates a higher demand, as currently only 10 electric charging vehicles available. Furthermore, two charging stations added last June are already due for an upgrade.

Meanwhile in Canada, according to Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, some non-electric car drivers are often reported to take up parking lot designated as electric car charging station. This incidents are often reported in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia.

As usage of for electric car is increasing in cities, the demand for more electric car charging stations is also increasing. Therefore, city administration must prepare more electric charging station to meet the demand.
