The white and orange droid from the Star Wars collectibles is getting a makeover with the collaboration of the Kay Jewellers with the Disney Consumer Products. The movie Star Wars: The Force Awakens is all set to hit the theaters within a few weeks. The galaxy craze is at its heights.
After the newest BB-8 droid toy launch from the franchise, it is being commemorated in golden metal. It is said that 600 hours went into the creation of this 4 inches tall droid.
As per the Luxury Launches report, this gold droid is 10 centimeters tall and weighs around 1.5 pounds or little more than that. It is smeared thickly in the 18-karat yellow gold and studded with 18 carats of diamond. There are 860 diamond stones on the gold BB 8 droid. This robot is valued at $135,000 (about £89,700, AU$185,100).
In the recent times, a number of strange, insane and outright worthless promotional movie products have come up. The James Bond's customized business tie, scandalously awful Jar Jar Bink's Lollipop in the shape of the tongue, the famous teddy bear in Mr. Christian Grey's depiction from 50 Shades of Grey, and now this craziest BB-8 gold droid from Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
The Like Cool blogs report suggests, BB 8 droid "will be displayed at the Force 4 Fashion exhibit in New York and auctioned off for charity later this month."
The upcoming mid-December release Star Wars: The Force Awakens real star is already said to be the BB-8 droid. It is being immortalized as the rolling toy and people are busy crafting the different versions like pumpkin BB-8 robot.
The luxe BB-8 is created by the Kay Jewellers for the fundraising occasion to be held in the New York. It is said that the fashion designers will be exhibiting re-imagined clothing line from the movie Star Wars. St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is supposed to receive the proceeds from the auction.
According to the CNET news, this isn't the first time Kay Jewellers has wielded the power of the Force. The company offers a whole line of Star Wars-related jewelry, including a Darth Vader charm bracelet, Rebel Alliance earrings and a Death Star ring.
Apart from the C-3PO, all other droids from the Star Wars are not too shiny. Therefore, R2-D2 is still wondering if the BB-8 droid must get an electroplating upgrade other than the C-3PO look for its polishing cloth.
