Netflix is now available for Oculus, Hulu coming soon

Oculus just announced another exciting news to its users during the Oculus Connect conference in Hollywood. As users are eagerly waiting for the next Oculus rift to hit the market next year, the team announced that they are working with Netflix and Hulu to bring the network shows on virtual reality. Users can now bid goodbye to the day of holding their laptop as they are lying down on their bed watching "House of Cards" or "Orange is the New Black".

Netflix announces during the conference that its team has been working with Oculus VR to develop an app for Samsung Gear VR according to the Los Angeles Times. Now users can download the Netflix app and stream shows on the Oculus Rift and Samsung Gear VR.

The app also contains a component known as "Netflix Living Room" feature a virtual living room with a huge LCD television with a list of Netflix shows on it. Although it is only available in 2D now, Fortune reported that users can expect 3D shows in the future.

Hulu, on the other hand, announced that their app will be launched as soon as this coming fall with an environment similar like Netflix. However, besides the normal living room setting users can also choose to watch "Seinfeld" in the same room where the show took place.

According to CBS News, Hulu is currently in the making of its own content that is specially designed for virtual reality users. The short film titled "RocketJump: The Big One" is a production between Hulu and YouTube star, Freddie Wong's company.

Besides online streaming providers, big Hollywood studio had also joined the bandwagon. 20th Century Fox previously announced a partnership with the Facebook own company and currently there are more than 100 films available on Oculus Video. The studio is also planning to release a full-length film, especially for the device.

This latest announcement marks the next move in the virtual reality technology as the company, Oculus is trying to make the device more appealing not only to video gamers but also for normal users.

Oculus also said that it is slowly working to start a certification program for computers enabling users to know which computers can support its device. So far, Asus, Dell, and Alienware have begun manufacturing computer that could support oculus and soon they will have a certified model for it. Customers can expect the computer to cost no more than $1,000.
