BlackBerry Cuts More Jobs Worldwide Amid Plans To Reorganize Company, Can They Still Compete Against Apple And Samsuung?
BlackBerry was once one of the top mobile companies in the world but due to the rising competitions such as Apple and Samsung, the mobile company has been declining rapidly. Due to this, it has been reported that Blackberry will continue to cut more jobs in many of their locations all over the world.
In a statement released by the Candian company to AFP, BlackBerry shared that the company will be moving to the next stage of their turnaround and their intention is to reallocate resources that will enable them to capitalize on growth opportunities. It has not been mentioned how many the company will be laying off but it is most possibly to affect the hardware, software, and applications departments in its locations worldwide.
In a report by The Wall Street Journal, the company told the publication last April that they are planning to close the Sweden offices and it will be laying off 100 people from their jobs. It is not clear, however, if this is still the plan regarding the latest announcement as to cutting jobs worldwide. The publication reached out to BlackBerry regarding the Sweden offices but the company declined to comment.
BlackBerry started its major operations all over the world back in 2011 and they employed 17,000 people globally. However, through the years after the plummeting sales of the company resulted to them cutting around 10,000 people and leaving only 7,000 workers as of date.
In 2013, BlackBerry CEO John Chen said that the company will focus on winning back their customers via making a revamped version of their mobile phones that has better security and mobile management software that is compatible with other devices such as iPhones and Android-run handsets. This resulted to the company releasing new models although the sale of these units has been very slow.
BlackBerry is yet to give an official statement as to how many jobs were cut and what other plans do they have to ramp up their sales and marketing effort in order to compete with the likes of Apple and Samsung.
